music, world, mission

Hey peeps, my name's Lewis Aquilina, welcome to my blog. I'll yander about my music stuff and life here in a personal sense. A year ago I bought this MP3 player which happened to have a built-in microphone, and surprisingly, it came in handy for recording my keyboard stuff (I play the keyboard by the way, or at least used to... more on that later). The mic quality wasn't amazing by any means but it got the job done for recording quick ideas. Well, to cut a long story short, I'm really glad I did record all my stuff because, having since been kicked out the house and being forced to live with my dad at my aunt and uncle's place, I'm without my precious keyboards. Fuck!! Now, more than a year on, I've pretty much forgotten how to play all the stuff I ever made... this obviously sucks for me so I'm just thankful I had the MP3 player to record my stuff at all...!

More on my current situation...
Here I type, "borrowing" next doors unsecured interwebs (bless 'em!), sharing what was once a small & cramped bedroom with my father in my aunt and uncle's house, but is now my very own room since his recent moving out. It sucked massively not having any of my own space for the painful year and few months I had to stick living with my music-hating father, but it's not like I had a choice... and I really miss having the musical touch that I used to have with my keyboard. Like really. I feel like a part of me has died away being without it. But, fortunately, all music creativity is not lost... 'cos I at least now have what I've always longed to have... an electric guitar! I finally got a Yamaha Pacifica 412v guitar and Vox AD50VT amp for my 18th, both second-hand, after some convincing thanks to the ol' man. This is what I want to be: singer/songwriter/guitarist in a successful band. I feel like I have a million and one tunes in me, but finding my sound and sticking with it is another thing. Need a band first to figure that out I guess...

All song demos
in the jukebox to the right [click here to "pop-out"] are performed on my keyboards: my Yamaha PSR-295 and latest Roland Fantom Xa synth. Someday I hope to play the melodies I made on keyboard on my guitar and turn them into proper songs with complete lyrics and get it all recorded properly in an established band. Well at least that was the original dream... I think for now the main aim's to work on my current guitar stuff. The majority of my old keyboard stuff can perhaps just be an ode to what my situation was like before being kicked out the house and before I had my guitars. But just to get my voice heard and be noticed... oh my god... I could die a fulfilled man at least.

The song/music demos performed on keyboard are basically to show what I am/was capable of musically and to share with anyone willing to have a listen. I consider this the "old-skool" me. Most, if not all of it was recorded while I was 17 (I'm 19 now) but I actually made some of it up while I was just 15 and 16. All my keyboard playing is actually intended to be played on real guitars but keyboard was the instrument I played at the time and I just happened to enjoy creating guitar music on the keys. That's thanks mostly to my earliest inspirations, Feeder and Yellowcard, who converted me from the video game music-composer-wannabe that I once was (i.e. the next Nobuo Uematsu, in my eyes!), to having my curiousity piqued enough to want to revel in the laws of rock rebellion. That, and I generally really like the sound of guitar. 'Tis a beautiful musical instrument in its own right.

P.S. If you're interested in the stuff I'm doing then be my guest and follow my blog. By doing so, you'll be updated every time I post new stuff. I need all the support I can get right now. Now go an' have a listen to my music!
